The Big Question Classical Landscape

This week we explored the development of landscape painting over the centuries. We looked at the shift from the classical pieces that seemed to hold a balance of nature to man made structures and compared this to more modern works that had a more obvious divide between the two, or that was completely focused on the urban environment. one of the bigger discussions was on the beauty of the urban landscape, and whether an urban landscape can be beautiful in the classical sense. Personally that it has a sad beauty to it, the celebration of what we have created but also a mourning for the balance that we have lost.
