As a step on from the previous line of thought with the hat stand piece I have considered trying to manipulate the form so that it resembles the tree more than the hat stand. A way of doing this I thought could be to varnish the wood a darker brown and then use sandpaper to create the texture and look of bark. Then using moss to bring growth back to the wood, by spraying and attaching moss to the base and the branch areas I could re create the image of the tree and even photograph it amongst forest both subtly and not.
One difficulty with this is the reliance on time and the length of time it might take for the moss to substantially take shape on the hat stand. I think that I will cover the base in a natural green grass or moss but by attaching it to the branches I will be taking the functional quality away from the hat stand, something I think it needs in order to remain a hatstand.
