New Brief – Find object/ artifact for inspiration

Thinking about how I wanted to continue with the summer project but with a new look I went in search of a piece that would allow this. Fortunately the national gallery is showing the Strata maps of William Smith created in the early 1800s, giving a possibility of furthering my ideas. Specifically the use of colour on the map, the idea of journeys as well as the geological heritage of the place that we live.

I am going to begin by researching the geology of the uk, using this map to focus on the areas that I have lived; chalk for Sussex and the coal areas for Cardiff.
