Rain falls

This piece came to mind after looking at the works of Norman Lewis and thinking about colour and the sky. Instead of using paintbrush, I attempted to create marks with a palette knife, which was more successful than I had hoped. The freedom, as well as the movement of the marks is very exciting, so I hope to continue with this further.

Once finished a mixture of themes came to mind; crowds moving or stained glass windows but the one that I felt was the best fit was an abstract impression of rain falling. Thinking about the chaos of a crowd moving when it suddenly starts moving, or the colourful rain at sunset/ sunrise. The piece also reflects the thin line between order and disorder, as the black lines desperately cling to the colour which is trying to escape from their confinements.
