I have been thinking about peaceful and calming spaces, the two that spring instantly to mind are places of religious worship and galleries. Both symbolise, for me, a search for knowledge and understanding for the world that we live in; either through the interpretations and ideas put forward by religions to explain our existence, or galleries, which display works that question and explore the societies and cultures of their creators.

The sketches shown are of places that I have personally found safe and calming; Llandaff Cathedral, Tate Modern, Chichester Cathedral and the British Museum.

I did one final sketch in this style that explored the skyline and silhouette of a city, I have always been more of a city person as long as I am near the sea and able to see the sky and so brought those together in a simple, calming sketch.
